It is mostly made up of older homes with Craftsman and Colonials style. There are also many Joseph Eichler designed or styled homes. The median home price is about $1,500,000. There are some of the most highly rated school including Palo Alto High School and Gunn High School.
The Palo Alto Unified School District continuously has students with the highest test scores. Characteristic of this city is the care taken to protect open space and parkland. There are a remarkable number of City-owned parks for its size and nearly one-third of its 26 square miles is open space.
