Foster City is ranked by Forbes as one the number 10 on America’s Top 25 Towns to Live Well in 2009. It has also been recognized by Money Magazine as one of the Best Places to to Live several times. Foster City is nearby Silicon Valley and has similar cultural and technology elements.

There are four public schools in the San Mateo-Foster City Elementary School District. Foster City Elementary, Brewer Island Elementary School, Audubon Elementary School and the Nathaniel Bowditch Middle School service younger kids. The San Mateo High School District services students from 9-12. Many of these schools are California Distinguished Schools. Visa is Foster City’s largest employer. Other employers include Sony, Philips, Guidewire, Gilead Sciences and Navigenics among others.

There are 19 parks that span over 100 acres. You’ll find tennis courts, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, basketball courts, and many trails for biking, rollerblading, and walking. The city is a big spot for Wold Class Windsurfing and Kite-Surfing in the Bay Area. Mariner’s Point offers golf and driving range.

The Hillbarn Theatre is a historic theater with a list of events and classes. There is also the local public Ampitheatre Leo J. Ryan Memorial Park, which hosts a array of summer concerts. There are many events that occur in Foster City including Holi-Festival of Colors, Polynesian Festival and the Art & Wine Festival. This is also considered one of the safest places to live in the country.
